An overview of the 318th Anniversary of the Shutting of the Gates Celebrations

Londonderry

The focus of the Celebrations within the Association was on the events within Derry's historic Walls, held this year on the 2nd December. This year the Walker Club have taken charge of the Association's two main Celebration dates and they started the December Celebrations by firing the cannon on Derry's Walls at midnight on the 1st December, followed by the symbolic "Touching of the Gates". The parade and Burning of Lundy passed off peacefully, continuing the Association's long run of successfull parades in the centre of Londonderry.

Other Events

Various Branch Clubs and Amalgamated Committees held events throughout the United Kingdom. In Scotland the Scottish Amalgamated held their annual Shutting of the Gates parade and churchi service in Glasgow on 9th December. The Lutton and Bedford Browning led the events in England with a parade and burning of Lundy in Stotfold on the 16th December, a full report will be in the next issue of the "Crimson Banner". In Northern Ireland various Branch Clubs held events to mark the anniversary.
